I’m going to keep this update fairly short and sweet, but I want to let you all know that I made a podcast for fun! I have been toying around with the idea recently with my friend, Artha, so we created a podcast called Chad & Dad (it was a funny name to me, ok?!).
From Colleagues to Co-Hosts
We had originally worked together at BlackboxMyCar, where Artha was our freelance videographer, helping us shoot and record videos for new products that we would carry. Artha would shoot me on camera and then edit the videos to create product reviews featuring our latest dash cams at the company. We always got along well and brainstormed very effectively, which allowed us to create some really cool videos together (Artha often tells me that I am way too detail oriented when it comes to feedback).
I’ve always been a big fan of podcasts and audiobooks. I constantly listen to them when I’m on my long runs on the roads multiple times a week. It’s a really great way of getting myself lost in a moment and allowing me to learn something new while I’m running. I like that a podcast allows for exploring different topics in-depth. Where short clips on platforms like TikTok or Instagram cater to shorter attention spans and quick bites, podcasts allows for deeper exploration of topics from multiple perspectives. I equate it to reading a book, but to be honest, I have a really hard time reading books in full, and I find much more joy in listening to a podcast or an audiobook instead because I really enjoy multi-tasking.
The Chad & Dad Podcast
Artha and I wanted to try something, and we created a podcast for fun. We’re launching a podcast called Chad and Dad. It’s kind of a fun, dumb joke. Artha’s single, so we called him a Chad, while I’m a dad because I have a small family. Our initial idea was to discuss various topics based on my experience as a dad and Artha’s perspective as a Chad. We would bring up a different topic every single week, explore the differences and similarities to provide unique insights to listeners. Our first episode centered around running and traveling as a single Chad vs a family-oriented dad. Admittedly, this episode is definitely not our best work, but we’re just slowly laying down the grooves and figuring out as we go.
Our goal is to have a relaxed, authentic conversation on the air. Personally, I don’t want the podcast to become an advice show, but rather just focus on making it feel natural, involving the audience, perhaps having guests in the future, and providing an enjoyable experience. Maybe share a few laughs or two. We don’t want to take ourselves too seriously.
Some Personal Reflections
Upon reflection on this year alone, I realized that I really value autonomy, creativity, and control over the creative process. So it’s important for me to embrace the unknown, try something new and interesting, and challenge myself, especially when my daily routine becomes monotonous. I think I spent a lot of time being scared of putting myself out there, but this was one of my big goals for this year to turn that around, and I needed to do it.
Over time, I’m hoping that Chad and Dad becomes my playground for trying and testing new things and figuring out what’s going to work and what doesn’t. Maybe we’ll discover our niche and build from there, but if it doesn’t work out, then it is what it is. I’d love to receive feedback and suggestions for improvement, including ideas for audience participation. We’re planning on sticking it out and posting something on a weekly basis, understanding that it will take time to build traction, especially for podcasts. I know we’re going to need to put out at least 50 episodes before we call this a win (or fail).
But all in all, the first episode of Chad and Dad is now available, and I’m eager to hear thoughts and experiences. I hope you enjoy our first episode, and I hope over time you’ll continue listening, and the podcast itself will get better and better.
