2024 – Present
As the co-founder of Birth to Life, I have played a pivotal role in establishing and expanding the online presence of our website and eCommerce store, which I created for my wife, Lynn, a dedicated Vancouver-based Birth and Postpartum Doula.
Through the strategic use of Shopify, I built a robust digital platform that effectively showcases Lynn’s expertise and services to a broad audience. My contributions include developing a comprehensive business plan and strategy tailored to growing her practice and connecting with her birth clients.
Birth to Life was a doula business that my wife started around 2023 after giving birth to our daughter. She found joy in providing care & support to parents, and decided to transition from HR to the birthing world.
I embarked on this journey to support my wife, Lynn Shinto, in her role as a dedicated Vancouver-based Birth and Postpartum Doula. Our shared vision was to create a comprehensive online platform that would not only highlight Lynn’s expertise and services but also serve as a valuable resource for parents.
This vision led to the establishment of Birth to Life, which serves as both a website and an eCommerce store designed to connect with families and provide them with essential support and products during the transformative journey of parenthood.

Recognizing a gap in the market for modern doula services, I developed a business strategy to position Lynn as a unique practitioner who appeals to contemporary parents. There’s often a misconception that doulas align with “hippie” lifestyles, which leaves an underserved market of parents seeking modern support. Noticing that many doulas focus more on caregiving than business, Lynn and I complemented each other’s strengths; her expertise in parental support and my focus on establishing a strong business foundation for Birth to Life.
My objective was to build Lynn a solid foundation in the birth world by developing her brand and expanding her client base. We focused on leveraging her excellent care to naturally generate great testimonials, which became essential in building credibility and attracting new clients. This strategic blend of top-notch service and targeted business tactics aimed to grow Birth to Life into a well-recognized and respected brand in the community.

One of our latest projects was creating the Postpartum Recovery Line. We focused on the distinct needs of new parents recovering from either C-section or vaginal births, as well as breastfeeding necessities. This understanding helped us curate essential products like witch hazel perineal spray, nipple butter, belly butter, nursing cups, nursing pads, and lavender recovery oil, all branded under Birth to Life.
I sourced these products from certified manufacturers, ensuring they were designed to aid mothers effectively. To enhance their appeal, I took professional photographs that resonated with our target audience. By collaborating with Lynn’s clients, we gathered feedback that guided continuous improvements, ensuring our product line remains aligned with the needs of new parents.
In addition to building our product line, I took the initiative to create a range of free resources that further establish Birth to Life as a trusted source of information and support. This includes the development of a comprehensive free Parent’s Guide, designed to offer guidance and insights to new parents.
Moreover, I curated various resources available on our dedicated webpage, encompassing topics that are essential for parents navigating the early stages of parenthood. These resources not only contribute to our brand’s reputation but also reflect our commitment to empowering families with the knowledge and tools they need on their parenting journey.
I created the Birth to Life Newborn Handbook for Lynn to share with her new clients as a free resource to help them get ready for parenthood.
I also created a variety of marketing and branding resources for her new clients. These included business cards and posters. Additionally, I designed birth position cards as a resource that she can provide to her paid clients. They offer information on different labor positions for when they are ready to give birth.
